Recycling Service for 16,000 Birmingham Households
Brumcans Domestic Recycling Services now serves 16,000 Birmingham households. The recycling collections launched on Monday 7th June in Sparkbrook marked the 16,000 households to receive this service, where 1 tonne 344 kilos of recyclables were collected from 2000 households.
Brumcan has been operating domestic recycling services since October 2002 and operates across four areas of Birmingham including Moseley, Balsall Heath, Small Heath and Sparkbrook. Weekly collections recycle glass bottles, cans, foil, aerosols, clothes, shoes, mobile phones and printer cartridges. Claire Atkins Recycling Co-Ordinator comments,
"Since Brumcan began collecting from households in 2002 we have collected 220 tonnes 705 kilos, 100 tonnes of which has been collected since the beginning of 2004. This has had a significant positive impact upon Birmingham's recycling rates which will further be improved with the support of Brumcans Education and Community Team."
Brumcan will be extending their services further this summer with an Estates Project providing recycling services to 1500 residents living in high/ medium rised flats.
